For the past few seasons Wigan have been ridiculously inconsistent up until the crunch time towards the end of the season. So far, this year has been no different. Controlled the game against West Ham last Saturday and won 2-1, but went out to Bradford in the League Cup during the week.
This confused frustration is evident amongst the Wigan fan forums as they attempt to predict what will happen up against us on Saturday.
“Difficult to predict. We are capable of controlling matches but away from home and against a far superior team it’ll be difficult to say the least.”
“Dembele is out which i say is a massive plus for us as he can control a game with his eyes shut.”
“My head keeps telling me we’re going to get something near to the 9-1, but Tottenham have an unpredictable streak in them as well and a part of me wonders whether we can pull off a surprise 1-0 win.”
“Bale is on form, and when Bale is on form, we suffer. I don’t see anything other than a Spurs win.”
Wigan Fan Prediction: Spurs Win 30%, Draw 50%, Wigan Win 20%
-Wigan have managed just two victories in the 15 previous meetings between the sides, but one of those came at White Hart Lane in the 2010-11 season.
-Tottenham did the double over Wigan last season, winning 2-1 at the DW Stadium and 3-1 at White Hart Lane. Gareth Bale scored three times in those fixtures.
-The Latics have scored just 13 times in the 14 league matches between the sides, compared with Tottenham’s 32 goals.
-Tottenham have scored in all nine of their league matches this season – the only other top-flight club to manage this feat is Manchester City.
-Only seven goals have been scored in the first half of Tottenham’s nine league matches this season, but 23 goals have been scored after half-time.
-Wigan are the only Premier League team who have not recouped any points from losing positions this season.
Team News & Selection
Adebayor, Adebayoooor, please come back, so we can rotate the team more.
Good news is, he’s back in the squad. Bad news is, Dembele is still out injured. And finally the indifferent news, is that Livermore may or may not be fit. With that all being said and done, I’d go for this:
I know Falque is technically a winger, but he was great against Norwich in the cup and I think he can’t be any worse than Dempsey has been in the attacking midfielder, sitting of the striker role. Ade needs a run in the team and Defoe needs a rest as well, he’s been getting less and less effective of late. Bale will score and it’ll be 3-1 to Spurs. COYS.
One final thing, I’m taking part in Movember this year. For the month of November I will be growing a moustache in aid of mens health charities.
– 1 in 9 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime
– This year 40,000 new cases of the disease will be diagnosed in the UK
– 7% of testicular cancer cases occur in men under 35 years and over 90% occur in men under 55 years
