Spurs 2 Everton 2 – Review & Ratings plus Walker’s hair…

The 2:05 kick off caught out plenty of people who ended up missing our first goal after just 35 seconds.

Vertonghen whipped in the perfect cross from the left. Close enough to the goal that it evaded the clearances of the Everton defence yet far enough away that it was too far out for Howard to be expected to come out and claim it. The result being that Adebayor poked it through Howard’s legs and into the net at close range. 1-0 Spurs.

Everton’s equaliser was a soft one to concede. Corner, poorly defended, not claimed by the keeper and headed through his legs into the goal. 1-1.

Everton’s second goal came as Mirallas turned the Spurs defence, in particular Caulker, inside out. Moving the ball back and forth between his feet whilst running towards goal at pace. His shot at the end of it beat Lloris to give Everton the lead. 1-2.

The remainder of the match was end to end stuff with both keepers making save after save, but Everton couldn’t hold on as Walker knocked the ball round Baines and outpaced him to cross for Adebayor. A dummy by Dempsey saw the ball run through to Adebayor who hits the post. Sigurdsson reacts the quickest and is able to side foot it into the net. 2-2.

Spurs Player Ratings
Lloris 7 – Came rushing out to make two of three good saves, but a rare error from Lloris gifted Everton their first goal. Lost the flight of the corner, got boxed in and the resulting header from Jagielka bounced between his legs and into the net.

Vaas / Walker
Walker 7 – Great run that led to our second goal but I think overall, Baines had the better of him in an attacking sense as he was often forced into cutting and passing back rather than getting crosses in. But more importantly, his new hair cut makes him look like the insane villain Vaas from Far Cry 3, and the sculpted do prevented him from doing his pre second half ritual of squirting water on his head and then spitting it out in front of the East stand. It’s just not the same match day experience without it…

Dawson 6.5 – Spent the first half being dominated by Anichebe both on the ground and in the air. Got the better of him at the start of the second half, but let him slip past dangerously a few times late on.

Caulker 6 – Turned inside out by Mirallas for Everton’s second goal.

Vertonghen 6.5 – Excellent cross within the first minute for Adebayor’s goal and linked up reasonably well with Sigurdsson throughout. Was however caught in possession and out of position a few times. Errors not usually expected from someone of Jan’s quality.

Sigurdsson 7.5 – Really starting to get going with his Spurs career. Another quick reaction strike to snatch a late equaliser.

Parker 6.5 – Drove us forwards, but once there, lost the ball far too easily for him.

Dembele 7 – Unlucky not to score when his deflected long shot was somehow knocked onto the bar by Howard. Majority of the attacks went via Dembele.

Holtby 6 – I couldn’t work out what his position was supposed to be as he was all over the place. Good in a way as his passion and effort is brilliant, but he didn’t seem to have too much impact on proceedings.

Dempsey 4 – Complete tosh today.

Adebayor 8 – Probably his best game for us this season. Scored one and was unlucky not to get another when hitting the post prior to our equaliser. Full of running and often set up chances out of nothing all on his own. The cynic in me says he is putting himself in the shop window with a few good end of season performances though…

Huddlestone 7 – The decision to bring on Huddlestone at the expense of Dembele was met with a few boos, but Huddlestone and AVB silenced the crowd through his performance. Perfectly weighted pass after pass from the middle of the pitch out to the wings.

Carrol 5 – On late. No time to impact the game really.
