Tottenham 2 Liverpool 1
Premier League 28th November 2012
Another Jekyll and Hyde Spurs performance, fortunately with three points at the end. A fast start and some poor defending from Liverpool saw us go two up early on, the first of which came as Bale picked the ball up on the halfway line, went past three Liverpool players effortlessly, before crossing the ball to Lennon, who had slipped his half awake marker Downing, for an easy tap in. 1-0 Spurs.
Liverpool came close shortly after, as Gallas was nutmegged and the defence sent scrambling. Lloris came flying way out of his area and Walker did enough to force Henderson to put it wide of an open goal.
A few minutes later, perhaps affected by his miss, he clipped Dempsey and brought him down for a Spurs free kick. The resulting Bale free kick sailed past the statuesque and confused Reina into the net. 2-0 Spurs.
Liverpool came out pushing for an equaliser after break, with Suarez on top arm waving, ref chasing, linesman moaning form, whilst Spurs were sitting deep in their own half inviting pressure on. Midway through the half a Liverpool corner was headed goal-wards by Gerrard. Lennon was in position to clear, but once again linked up with Bale to score in front of the Park Lane. His clearance smashed into the face of the Welshman and into the net. Cue ironic, and if we hadn’t just conceded, somewhat humorous “Ba-le, Ba-le, Ba-le” chants from the Liverpool fans. Spurs fans responded with “He scores when he wants, he scores when he waaaants, Gareth Bale, he scores when he wants.” 2-1.
The Spurs defence held out for the rest of game to confirm the three points. Throughout the game, there were 29 crosses into the box from Liverpool and they only got on end of four of them, which despite some sloppy errors from Gallas and Dawson, shows their positioning was pretty decent.

Brad Friedel – Another good 3 points today. Wasn’t pretty at times but great win:)
Sandro – Hello Guys … Great win tonight… Vamos ….
Aaron Lennon – Massive win!!! we had to dig deep in the 2nd half lads showed great character, wonder if ill get assist for there goal lol
Lloris 7 – Some good saves and great sliding blocks in one on ones. One or two wobbly moments including that one where Gallas got nutmegged and Lloris came flying out only to be beaten by the oncoming Liverpool player which left an open goal fortunately missed.
Walker 7.4 – A good game from Walker. Not particularly confident going forwards, as he was often more content to pass backwards or side ways, but didn’t give the ball away as he has been doing. Defensively he was very important as his pace saved us numerous times. Nutmeg Gate being one, and on multiple occasions flying back to make a tackle, a block, or their cross difficult. Cleared off the line in the first half as well.
Gallas 6 – Nutmeg gate and gave the ball away on more than one occasion, but performed reasonably well keeping the Liverpool crosses out.
Dawson 6.5 – Sloppy at times which put us under pressure, but one of those typical body on the line, face in the path of the ball performances from Dawson.
Vertonghen 6.5 – Drove us forwards at times, sloppy passes at others. Was helped out by Bale in defence this time.
Lennon 7 – Scored the opener and his pace kept Liverpool occupied throughout.
Sandro 7 – Dominated Liverpool in the first half.
Dembele 7.5 – Great in possession and controlled the Spurs attacks. Faded in the second half perhaps due to not quite being 100% yet.
Bale 8 – Unplayable in the first half, but faded along with our attacking intentions in the second.
Dempsey 6 – A return to obscurity.
Defoe 6 – Found it difficult to hold the ball up, gave the ball away a few times, and (not his fault) couldn’t really deal with the long balls straight to him. Wasn’t really in the game at times.
Sigurdsson 5 – Disappointing. Had no impact in his 30 minutes on the pitch. Could be that the team was too defensively minded at that point, but have not seen that special something from him yet.
Huddlestone 5 – On late, couldn’t really effect the game.
